San Antonio Roses

We had a great visit to San Antonio, as always.  We packed our week full of friends, family, and Fiesta events. Needless to say, we came home rather exhausted but with hearts full.  Here is a snapshot of our experience.

This is the entrance to the Riverwalk from the Casino building where we stayed. 

We had breakfast almost every morning on the river.  Pancakes, Huevos Rancheros, and breakfast burritos galore!

If you look closely enough you can see Garland and Mary Larkin finishing up the Original Mexican Restaurant.  

Ahh, there they are.  The mornings were cool while we were there which made breakfast quite pleasant.

Our first day in SA, we hit the zoo, one of our favorite spots in town. If you haven't been, we highly recommend, particularly spending some time at the Africa Live! exhibit.  We met our good friends from Chantilly, VA, the Mike Eiden's at the zoo. Mike lives in Austin now and came down for the day with his wife Leah and two cuties, Luke and Lily.

Our second day in SA, we had the fabulous experience of the River Parade, one of the most fun Fiesta events. Barges parade down the river, lit up with bands and beads. The girls had a great time partying on the banks at Daddy Bob's restaurant. 

This is Eleanor and her new bud, Katie. They had a great time cheering on the barges and catching candy and beads.

This is Mary Larkin and Oliver Shearer, son of good friends Pat and Stephanie Shearer.

Another fun adventure for us in San Antonio is to visit the Quadrangle at Fort Sam Houston. Geese, ducks, peacocks and deer roam freely here and we love to visit them and feed them. Aunt Eleanor Stromberger joined us for the fun. It has become a bit of a tradition for the Eleanors to visit the Quadrangle together when we visit.  

We visited the SA establishment, Kiddie Park.  Garland spent his youth at this amusement park and it is still there. The girls had fun and Garland had an even better time reliving his youth.

Towards the end of our visit, Molly and Brandon came out to meet us. We loved seeing them and showing them the sites!

Another fun Fiesta event is the Battle of Flowers parade through downtown. We watched the parade from a hotel room at the Menger Hotel where we visited with many friends.  Mary Larkin enjoyed playing with the confetti and throwing it off the balcony.
